Such An Ugly Ethos?

Posted on Sep 11th, 2008 by RobMoshe : Truth Seeker RobMoshe

I was in Starbucks this evening buying an new French Press, and as I was standing at the check out I noticed a nice looking bottle of water labeled "Ethos Water".  Curious, I picked up the bottle to read what it was about.

The Ethos Water mission: to help children around the world get clean water. For every bottle that Ethos sells, Starbucks donates 10 cents toward solving the world water crisis, with the goal of donating $10 million by 2010

Thinking this was a nice iniciative I asked the barista how much the bottle was.

$2.50 for a 500ml bottle.

I couldn't beleive it. And why the high price?
The barrista tells me because 5 percent is going to this charity.

How foolish do these companies think people are?

They are taking a product that they get out of a tap (It's made by Pepsi so it's just re branded Aquafina tap water), charging over $1 premium in the name of charity, and they pocketing the full profit of the market price, plus 90 cents of the premium "in the name of  charity".

The founder might have had a good idea but something was lost along the way.

Lets not leave this without some lessons.

Be a thinker:

It is always good to give a person or company the benefit of the doubt, but that doesn't mean to walk around with our minds turned off. If you want to support any cause and you suddenly see a product being sold that claims to be on as mission for that cause, think it through.

In the case of the water fund.

If you found an organization that gives 100% of donated money to the cause then it might be better to make a donation for $5 directly.

To donate that same $5 through ethos water, you would have to buy 50 bottles of water at a $1 premium.  So in essence it would cost you $45 more to give $5 through ethos.

Tithing is powerful. Do it right:

People are moved by charitable acts, because deep down they realize the power of giving.
When you give a portion of what you earn, it connects you to the rest of the world.

The oft recommended amount is 10%. It is rare to find a successful person with a stong ethical and moral compass that doesn't tithe. They realize that the key to a successful and meaning full life is through giving.

Whatever you give make sure it is a true giving. If you are in a business don't say you are going to give a portion of your profits and then double your price so you can capitalize on the deception.

The rant is over.

If you know of some worthy world organization that give 100% to charity feel free to post them here.

Make the weekend great.

P.S. I found a link to a page that expresses the message far better than my post  http://www.ethos-water.com/
If you click on any of the links it takes you to the Ethos Water Site.

Let's Take a Sabbatical From Earning Money.

Posted on Sep 9th, 2008 by RobMoshe : Truth Seeker RobMoshe
By a show of hands.
How many people want to earn lots of money in their business?

Wow. That's a lot of hands.

Now by a show of hands.

Who wants to live a meaningless life and die impoverished?

Yeah. Didn't think so.

When I was 17 years old I set a goal for myself, that by 35 I wanted to have made my first million.  This year though close to my goal I decided to give myself till 35yrs 364 days. I have less than 330 to go.

Today I made an interesting discovery. I am not really interested in money!

Now don't get me wrong, I want to be very successful. I want to travel, take care of my family, give charity and enjoying the fine things in life, but I am not excited by money.

If you give me a $100 bill I will not get palpitations, enter a state of Ecstasy, or spend time admiring the artwork. I will thank you put it in my wallet and put it to good use.

The mind can only hold one thought at a time.  If you wish to be successful in your life's passion, how can you accomplish that if all you are thinking about is making money? If you are focusing on money, your mind is not focusing at all on what you really enjoy.

Imagine driving from New York to Florida and only looking at the odometer. Do you think you will get very far?

If you want to achieve success then its time to take a Sabbatical from thinking about money.  If your business/passion is of value, by focusing all your energy into developing yourself, and serving your clients/customer, you will almost be guaranteed financial success.
If you focus on money then you will never arrive at your destination.

My passion is helping others, the path that I am expressing that through is Coaching.  Every time I think about money, it is time I am taking away from supporting others in their success.

" I am now taking a sabbatical from focusing on earning money"

Whose with me?

Wishing you abundant success,

Rob

Live Your Best Life By Serving Others.

Posted on Feb 1st, 2008 by RobMoshe : Truth Seeker RobMoshe
This is a recent post from my blog  www.robschaumer.com

This post was part of the catalyst for today’s ‘Daily Question’: When Was A Time In Your Life Where You Felt The Greatest Sense Of Reward?

Recently I met with a friend, L.C., a retired businessman nearing his 70’s. In the past few months I had noticed that the fire in L.C.’s eyes had dimmed, and I suggested that we have a coaching session to see if we could begin to re-ignite that fire.

By the end of that 45 minute meeting, L.C. began to realize that he still had some fight left in him, and the fire was coming back to his eyes. The session ended with L.C. giving me a warm hug, a grandfatherly kiss on the cheek, and sincere thanks.

In the past few weeks this has be a time where I have felt the greatest sense of reward.

As I reflect further, I see that I always feel best when I am serving others. It is a great feeling to move beyond yourself and help others achieve their dreams and goals.

Robin Sharma, in his “Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” series of books, discusses the idea of a Servant Leader. A servant leader does not walk ahead expecting others to follow. He supports, coaches, and helps others so they too reach their highest potential.

In light of this, I am about to embark on an exciting project.

My goal in the next year is to help at least 500 people get closer to their goals and dreams. I will do that through the sharing of ideas, insights, information and connections.

My intention is to set up a website (or work within the community) where this can happen. I will also try to design it in such a way that others that are interested in helping others can also participate.

If you wish to be part of my “Help 500″ project, just send me a message and I will add you to my list.

I look forward to serving.

Sincerely,

Rob Moshe
